Considering the many shades of whiteness that exist and who is defined as 'white' under that category 'white' has changed throughout history and across geography, the fact people like Anne Frank didn't benefit from white privilege shouldn't be a controversial statement. The original statement just revisits how miseducated we are and really how whiteness is not just about being white. The work of people like Emma Dabiri, Nell Irvin Painter, David Roediger, and others on this is really illuminating.
