Great article, Karen. It is scary what is going on in the States at present but I worry people will relegate what happened as an American problem. When we are seeing nationalist/fascist states popping up all over the world, including Brazil, India and yes, Britain (England).

I question whether we'll something quite like the Capitol Riots in UK. However, we are seeing corruption run rife through COVID and we saw the power of the media in the last election. You could make the argument that there was a coup in Britain, except it was one done without guns and bullets, and the battle was through the press, politics and corporations.

Violence is as American as cherry pie. The riots are entirely in character for the nation and its history. There have been riots in Britain but we are a much older nation and our violence was often exported overseas. It is also somewhat in character for us but it really depends what you define as violence.

I hear a lot of people saying they want to go back to normal after COVID. But the pre-COVID world was violent and nothing about it was normal. Britain, like the US, still hasn't recknoned with its history (though I think America is further along in that discussion). Excellent read, Karen.

Look forward to reading more of your work :D
