Oh my lord! This article was excellent. I must say as well; that as a poet, I hope if her presence does anything that her performance on the biggest platform in the world does nothing but open up more doors for spoken word poetry on massive platforms. One of the biggest things to happen in my experience during the COVID era is how poetry events and open-mics have gone online which means they now have an international appeal. I have had international lineups at my events (normally UK-based). It's fab. Post-COVID, I can only hope that Gorman's efforts are a win for all poets, bashing at a wall that many have towards poetry, and what academia has towards towards spoken word. There's certainly more things in play here than I think a good many realise, pertinently those not in the poetry world. Great article, Ayomide.
