To me, it seems this writer hasn't read any Critical Race scholars and just fell victim to dominant media discourse. Such academics include: Derrick Bell, Kimberlé Crenshaw, Richard Delgado, David Gillborn, Patricia Williams, Cheryl Harris and others. Critical Race Theory is a profoundly important piece of academic scholarship that helps us understand how race structures our society and really our day-to-day lives. There's lots of great stuff to read and learn about, with Cheryl Harris' article 'Whiteness as Property' being one that has stayed with me.
